I don't get it. She says she wants him to experience love. How is sending him to a brothel going to help??

I guess one reason he may not get a girlfriend is because of his mother. Who would want her for a mother-in-law! She'll probably send her grandsons to a brothel!! gggrrrr how was she allowed to adopt 4 children!

I was just coming in to post this link.

I am disgusted! How embarrassing for him!

Why not let him do it in his own time? Find some one special, someone that he has an emotional connection with, just like the majority of the world's population? She makes me angry!

I was actually coming in to post this. I can't understand it, and find it quite un-settling. I would love for Georgia to form a relationship with a man with DS when she reaches adulthood, but it's certainly never occurred to me to want her with someone who hasn't got DS. In all honesty, that would be odd, I have never actually heard of it.... I don't mean to sound horrible when I say this, but do any of you envisage your child with DS in a relationship with a person who does not have it - or at least have a disability. Surely it just wouldn't work...

To me, I can't envision it myself. I would guess they would need to at least be on a similar intellectual level just for the sake of conversation, interests, understanding etc. I know a lot of people with other disabilities that marry those without disabilities, but I would imagine that would be different than an intellectual disability IYKWIM.
Having said that - who knows. There is enough variety out there that I guess it would be an individual thing. Does anyone know of any DS people who are married/in long term relationships? I am totally interested in this, and also their ability to have children themselves etc. The whole concept is pretty new to me, and I guess as time goes on, more and more DS adults will have grown up with things like Early Intervention etc that could significantly change the long-term outlook for them in regard to relationships/families etc.
Does anyone know of any DS adults with children themselves?
Sorry, getting a bit off topic. It's late and my mind is starting to wander......

OMG !!! Why on earth would you do this !! I have to say it is not unheard of that male adults with special needs are taken to brothels. In fact it is a topic that is discussed in some disability studies courses. But to come out and publicly look for someone to pay to sleep with her son. How cruel !

Perhaps she should channel her energy into giving her son the right opportunities to meet someone special !

I think using the services of a prostitute is not necessarily an issue - so long as the person with or without disability wants this option - but I think Otto's Mum needs to keep in mind that that is not 'love' and surely a trip to Amsterdam is just an odd idea - don't thay have prostitutes in her area? (or is she thinking that once will be enough? Shocked ).

I liked Steve Clarke's comments - very sensible - I can't see myself EVER taking Kit or Hannah to a brothel ( Wtf ) however - I accept that Hannah may need some more explicit or direct guidance in matters of sexuality and relationships - I hope that she will form enough stable and loving friendships and have sufficient self esteem that we can work these things out. If I have to get involved it will be brokering a LOVE match NOT a knockin' fest - there are a lot of very cute little boys on this forum .... Fingers Crossed .

I also liked one of the latter comments from PB - along the lines of Top shelf Mum - mine never helped me get laid - too true!! Otto also could do with some better outfits - that may improve his chances of 'scoring' clap . All in all though - his Mum has at least reminded readers that people with disability are sexual beings just like everyone else - for me that means DISCRETION I'm scared though!!!!

So what? She didn't know she had DS? That's pretty amazing. I heard of someone else on EB who was expecting, and was told that she had DS. It seems pretty unreal.....

I read somewhere that most males with DS are likely to be sterile. Have not gone to check this anywhere else though, Coral

More often than not when an adult is diagnosed with DS they are Mosaic. It is certainly not unheard of at all. There is one lady on EB who this happened to she is Mosaic and works as a nurse Smile
