| This is a section of the report, sounds interesting... - A number of studies have investigated the possible tumor suppressing effects of some of the genes located on chromosome 21, the idea being that because persons with DS have extra copies of these genes in their cells, this may explain their reduced risk of development of or death from certain solid tumors

| There's been quite a few articles about this popping up in my Google news alerts over the last few weeks - it's really interesting stuff.
One of the best things I have read in a long time was a sentence in an opinion piece on the finding that read something like "how ironic that a population society has worked so hard to eradicate could be the ones to save us".
*edited to add* - I just realised the original article posted is specifically about the protection of people with Ds from Cancer.... those I have been reading discuss the use of this finding in research towards a cure or prevention for the general population. xx | |
