Hi everyone,We are so excited, Jodie as of next year will be going to House with No steps doing Community participation program, it's is like a follow up to her life skills she has been doing at school. I know alot of you are just at the beginning of your lives with our special children, but you do have alot to look forward to, enjoy each step and milestone they take, because it's doesn't seem like 19 years for me. It is funny how things turn out, 2 years ago we were devasted to learn that Jodie had type 1 diabetes and because if this, she had a lot of time off school so I decided to repeat her and it has been the best thing that could of happen as if she had of finished school last year, this program with house with no steps wasn't available so we would have had to go with something else. The program itself has been only going 4 months, she will have a IEP set up with short term and long term goal with the long term goal to have her go into transition to work, we will have a meeting every 3 months to check how things are going too.We have really been worried about what she would be doing and it is a huge relief to have this offered to us.Also it was one of Jodie's Nana and Poppy's (my mum and dad) dreams to go there, I'm sure they are smiling from heaven and if you believe may have had something to do with this happening. If you have any questions on anything reagarding Jodie, don't hesitate to ask , I haven't been on here much lately, I'm sort of addicted to farmtown on facebook , it's not just me though, I could name a few others from this forum, LOL but I promise to check back here more often.

Haha! so that's where all the action is Razz lol......

How great that Jodie's got something so exciting coming up! Seems things really worked out well after all as far as her having time off school goes! It's probably a big relief for you having that 'hurdle' flattened somewhat Very Happy I know getting our kids INTO school is a big enough task! and now you're about to get yours OUT Smile Thanks for sharing!

Sounds great Trish. WE are starting to think about what lies ahead for Andy also. TBH I can't wait til he is finished with school! I hope he is more motivated for the next stage in his life lol!

Does Jodie have any ideas about what type of work she would like to do ?

It's great to hear that Jodie has a good program that will help her transition to work. What a big step for her and for you! I know at least two older people with DS locally (they are both in their early 30's) who have good jobs here. One guy works in the supermarket and really loves his job and the girl works in the office of the local disability support organisation - she answers the phone and does filing and reception. They are both amazing people and I love it when I get a chance to chat with them.
