Did anyone else watch it? http://sunday.ninemsn.com.au/sunday/cover_stories/article_2424.asp

They had a story on the NT scan and how unreliable it is. How Dr's are making women have a CVS or Amnio (by not explaining the very real risks of those procedures) because of those results and 95% of the CVS and Amnio results show no abnormalities.

They were basically saying that the NT Scan is completely unreliable. Apparently which US you have and which tools they use can affect your result.

They had some women on there who had the CVS and lost their babies (from an amniotic leak- where they took the specimen for the tests must never have healed or was weak Crying or Very sad ) They had a woman who was given the all clear and then had a Down's child. Another women who was given a high risk of Down's but then had a "normal" child.

The most disappointing part for me was that when they talked about the test, it was always so negative about Down's. Like the test was created so we could all be saved from hell on earth by having a child with Down's. It always gets me how people are so willing to terminate a child on the chance that their child will have it. But of course, I am biased!

I've watched half of it so far. I understood them to say that 95% of the tests which showed a 'positive' (ie a chromosomal abnormality such as Down Syndrome) resulted in a 'normal' pregnancy and healthy baby.

The woman who had the little baby with Down Syndrome was told she had a 1 in 2000-odd chance of having a baby. The couple said it was wrong but it was not wrong. They were there ONE in 2000-odd. People don't read statistics right and that's what the main prob is.

I heard of a woman who terminated her baby because she was told she had a 1 in 4 chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome. How sad that she is willing to kill 3 healthy babies out of 4...

It's very sad that women are told numbers which are only such a small part of life....

Just watched the rest of it today. Makes me so mad....

Unbelievable that the guy who introduced the test to Australia couldn't see the tragedy in losing a baby. Very very sad....
