Livewire launches Livewire Siblings Empty
PostSubject: Livewire launches Livewire Siblings   Livewire launches Livewire Siblings Icon_minitimeMon 16 Nov 2009 - 19:03

Hi I received this tonight from the MacKay Autism support yahoo group,
thought some of the siblings here might be interested.
Sorry I didn't have this before the 15th for that comp. Looks like there are
more competitions there as well.
Also note : Livewire is working with the Australian Federal Police to help
ensure all members of Livewire remain safe while engaging with the community

This looks really good.
Cathy

Livewire launches Livewire Siblings
Livewire Siblings (siblings.livewire.org.au) is a free, safe and supportive
online community for young people (aged over 10 and under 21) who have a
brother or sister living with a serious illness, chronic health condition or
disability. It is a place for them to meet other siblings, share
experiences with people who understand what they are going through, and gain
the skills and knowledge to help them feel more in control of their
situation.
Many families struggle to cope with a child living with a serious illness or
disability. The brothers and sisters of young people living with a serious
illness or disability face unique teenage challenges. These siblings suffer
a heavy emotion burden - they experience feelings of isolation from the rest
of their family and their peers; guilt, confusion, anger, jealousy and often
receive less parental attention than their ill siblings. ¹
Livewire Siblings aims to facilitate connection, empathy and understanding
between siblings who are experiencing similar situations by offering a
secure, moderated online community where young people can:
· Chat online and meet other siblings who understand what they are
going through
· Create a blog about themselves or stuff they are interested in
· Enter competitions and win awesome prizes
· Read content and information created just for them
· Check out the latest music and games
· Post in forums and have their say!
Chat hosts and moderators trained in adolescent health are online 7 days a
week to ensure that Livewire remains a supportive and fun place. Livewire
is working with the Australian Federal Police to help ensure all members of
Livewire remain safe while engaging with the community.
Young people who join Livewire Siblings before 15 November 2009 will be in
the running to win a Nintendo Wii, just go to www.siblings.livewire.org.au
and complete the Livewire Siblings “online registration” or contact the
Livewire Support Team on (02) 8425 5971.
