You may have heard of Melissa Riggio - If you have I know that you would have been impressed by a remarkable young woman who has DS. I was very sad to hear that she had died this week (age 20) - here is one of the many mentions of this remarkable woman that I found in cyberspace: http://momseatofpants.blogspot.com/2008/04/melissa-riggio.html . As I said on my blog - she was certainly someone I found inspirational - and one day I know that I will tell part of her story to Hannah - or Hannah will hear her song somewhere - and be inspired also. May she rest in peace.

I had a read through her blog last night listened to her music., she’s an amazing person.
I felt so sad and still do, this has just really reminded me how limited our time here is and that my child with Down syndrome most likely wont live all that long. I think I had pushed this as far back in my mind as I could and now I remember that life is short I have to make the most of each and every day with all my children. So today was an ok day we spent lots of time hanging out and just having fun.

Yes I know what you mean - especially as we tend to worry about the future for our children particularly the ones with DS - even though life spans are so much imporved, life is always vulnerable. I went into where the twins were sleeping and watched over them for ages after I found out. I had heard Melissa's stuff and read her article in Nat Geographic last year - I thought that she was a wonderful rolemodel for everyone.
