| Here is another article. Blows me away and warms me from the inside out. These are grandparents that want to make a difference - and that fortunately have the means to do so on a grand, grand scale. Just the press that this may receive is recognition from someone successful that our children are worth taking care of and doing research for. And there frankly isn't enough of that sort of reinforcement. http://www.denverpost.com/ci_10533282?source=email | |

| I think it's great that these Grandparents have the means to do this but......... - Quote :
And Monday, Sie did what his heart told him to do. He committed $34 million to establish what he says will be the best research facility in the world to study the ill effects of Down syndrome, with the eventual aim of eradicating the syndrome.
not if this is the main aim. It's abit like genocide. | |

| I think that comment is getting a few a bit worried but my guess is that it's a bit of journalistic assumption based on the rest of the stuff I've read (likely they mean eradicating the ill effects of DS, not the syndrome itself). For example - Quote :
- "Through research and improved care, we can make it easier for them to go to school, make friends, have jobs, get married and ultimately live independently. We will help them live richer, fuller lives.
And quote from the mum - Quote :
As the kids played, Michelle Sie Whitten, John Sie's daughter, reflected on what this will mean.
She said it will probably mean a better world for all children with Down syndrome and a society where they are highly valued.
"It is meaningful because my parents will be able to leave a legacy not only for Sophia but all children and all people with Down syndrome," she said. "It is going to get better and better and better."

| Yes Di i thought that the research that will be done to help lessen the effects of Ds such as low tone etc will be great but i also hope the research isnt used to eradicate Ds. $34million is alot of money and anything is possible. | |
